Our historic Oakland site was founded in 1909; originally designed to exclusively preserve
and honor cremated remains, it was expanded in 1954 to add above-ground burial.
Redesigned by Julia Morgan, a leading early 20th century architect
The facility was rebuilt and expanded in 1928 based on designs by Julia Morgan, a
legend of California architecture and designer of the landmark Hearst Castle. Today,
the facility is considered one of the Bay Area’s most beautiful buildings, an
“architectural gem.” Walking tours of the historic structure are available to visitors.
